EAST COAST CHAPTER |
We worked with Howard Baugh and Tidewater Chapters to have the Fourth Thursday in March each year recognized as Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day in the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. This day honors the more than 15,000 men and women involved in the so-called "Tuskegee Experience," in which the Army Air Corps trained African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft. Pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, all the personnel who kept the planes in the air are all Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airman Commemoration Day was adopted in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia in 2019, and the Governor of the State of Maryland issued a Proclamation March 28th, 2019.
